Our family home is situated near Richmond Bridge Mooring, just off Willoughby Road. As a local Richmond photographer, when the chance arose to do a photo session on the river, I was ecstatic!
Sunset Paddle Boarding Photo Shoot in Richmond
The recent heatwave presented the perfect calm river opportunity for photography. Our decision to book the photo shoot later in the day also made for a memorable twilight and fascinating colours on that searing Thursday evening. I also managed to capture some unique photographs on top of Richmond Bridge whilst the family were paddle boarding on the river.

About the family…
“Back in May 2019 whilst on a half-term holiday in Cefalù, Sicily our daughter Anna spotted some people out in the bay having paddleboard lessons and was really keen to have a go. Given she was only 5 years old at the time, we assumed she may have forgotten about it the next day but she woke up the next morning still asking to have a lesson. We thought she would probably be too young but the next day we went down to chat to the guys at the Piranha Surf & SUP School who said she’d be fine and on went the rash vest and the lesson started – first on the beach to learn how to use the paddle / how to stand etc, then out into the picturesque bay. Anna took to paddle boarding like a duck to water and had a fabulous time with her instructor, so next day we there again – and this time it was dad’s turn to join the lesson who turned out not to be quite as capable as his young daughter!
Back in Teddington, we thought we should continue this new hobby and after purchasing a couple of inflatable SUPs, we headed out onto the Thames. 18 months later, and having bought another board, we are regularly found down on the river paddling down to the White Swan pub, up to Kingston, as well as venturing further afield taking the boards down to the south coast.”
